Warminster became world famous in the 1960s when unidentified flying objects were seen hovering over the town and the "Warminster Thing" mystery, as it became known, remains unsolved and the area still plays host to those who come sky- watching. Cradle Hill and Cley Hill are favourite vantage points.

Most of the UFO sightings in Warminster over the years have been of glowing orbs of light, the amber rambler, thought by some to be linked to the Crop Circle phenomena, and is regularly sighted in the area of Wiltshire during the summer.
